-AVOID contact with beauty and household products such as face soaps, sprays, makeup, and cleaning liquids.
-AVOID contact with water. Metals and patinas react to moisture. Always take your jewelry off before taking a shower, swimming, or getting in hot springs; the sulfur will turn it dark gray.
-STORE separately in a cool and dry place. The best way is to hang it. Placing it over abrasive surfaces or keeping it in contact with other jewelry will damage the finish.
-STORE it with a silica packet if you are in a humid location. We ship one with the pieces that we think will need it since humidity will darken the metal.
-BE CAREFUL with it. Some metals like silver are soft and will scratch easily.
Most of our jewelry fits in the cast category. There are a few variations, but if the description of your piece mentions an oxidized patina. Follow these directions:
USE cool water and your fingers to clean the piece gently. Scrubbing it will damage the finish.
DRY it with a soft and clean towel. Pat dry; the patina only alters the outer layer of the metal; if you rub it, it will come off.
THE PATINA will last forever with proper care, but if something happens, it can be re-applied, contact us.
STORE it in a dry place. If your piece has brass hoops, you may have noticed a silica packet shipped with it. Please store your jewelry with it if you want to protect it from environmental changes.
Occasionally we have designs like the Orbits hoops above that have a satin finish and no patina to alter the color of the metal. If you have one of these, follow these directions:
USE cool water and your fingers or a soft-bristle brush to clean them gently. Using a detergent-free soap like Dr. Bronner's is optional.
ULTRASONIC cleaners are ok to use if you have one.
PAT DRY with a soft cloth.
POLISH it with a polishing cloth to bring back the shine if you desire.
STORE in a dry place. Storing them with a silica packet will protect them from environmental changes.
USE A SOFT-BRISTLED TOOTHBRUSH, BUT BE CAREFUL NOT TO SCRAPE THE FINISH WITH THE HANDLE AND CHOOSE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING CLEANERS:
WE USE a professional cleaner called 'No name' that we get from Rio Grande Jewelry. It is a powder that works great mixed with water. You will need gloves. PLEASE READ the drying instructions below.
BONAMI is an affordable powder soap available at most supermarkets that is popular among Jewelers. Mix it with water and brush your piece. If the part is too dirty, soak it in the mix overnight. Brush, rinse, and repeat as needed. PLEASE READ the drying instructions below.
A NATURAL cleaning option is baking soda and white vinegar or water. Mix it and brush your piece. If the part is too dirty, soak it in the mix overnight. Brush, rinse, and repeat as needed. PLEASE READ the drying instructions below.
DRY them with a blow dryer. We grab them by the clasp and quickly dry both sides while turning them back and forth. Once the surface is dry, we leave them in front of the blow dryer for a few minutes to dry all layers. If you let the water sit on them too long, it will leave a stain, but don't worry, get them wet again to remove the mark and dry them again.
STORE them with the silica packet we ship them with. It will absorb moisture and keep them in good condition for longer. These small packets come inside many products sold; save them if you don't have the one we sent you. They will help you preserve your pieces while they are being stored.
