Ixchel ([iʃˈt͡ʃel]) was the Mayan goddess of healing and fertility. The story goes that two of her thirteen sons created heaven and earth, and as a goddess, she was considered the mother of all.
She was often depicted sitting inside a crescent moon holding a rabbit. She is also called the moon goddess because she was in charge of birth, medicinal plants, and the moon phases.
